Feast of the Baptism of the Lord   Print

The very first baptism in this church took place on 22nd December 1861, when Father Cornelius Keens, Ogle Street's first Parish Priest, baptised nine day old Patrick Lloyd.

Patrick Lloyd died in 1935, but there is a memorial to him in the sacristy. His baptism, and every baptism since, is recorded and preserved in the Registers of the Parish.

Where is the record of your baptism? Today, Feast of the baptism of the, we recall with thanksgiving, our own baptism; in this church, or another; in this country, or the country of our birth.

Today we remember with gratitude, those who brought us to the Font, those who carried us to the "Living Waters"; those who by their love and care, their words and example, nurtured and brought to life the seed of faith planted in us at our Holy Baptism: most especially our parents and family, our teachers and friends, our catechists and priests.  Those of us who are Godparents, remember the promises we made, and we pray for our Godchildren wherever they may be.

S.P.U.C. Some children never reach the waters of baptism. They are aborted. They receive death in the very place where they should receive life. The collection after mass today is to support the work of the work of the Society for the Protection of Unborn Children, especially its work of caring for mothers, who for whatever reason - sometimes tragic and terrible - have had an abortion.
Consanguinity, Affinity, Spiritual Relationship...these are serious impediments to marriage.  So is ignorance, emotional immaturity, lack of due discretion, and many other things too.  That is why the Church requires that every couple seeking the Sacrament of Marriage must receive proper preparation and catechesis. Such a catechesis will begin in our parish on Thursday 14th January 2010 at 8pm in the crypt. Speak to Fr. Alan for more details.
First Communion Catechesis begins on Saturday 1th January 2010 at 10:30am in the crypt, when parents should present their child.
Cathechesis for the sacrament of Confirmation will commence on Friday 5th February at 7pm in the Crypt. This year Confirmation will be celebrated on the 15th May at 2:30pm in Westminser Cathedral with candidates from other local parishes, with Archbishop Vincent Nichols.
